Thanks To...
There have been a good number of wonderful folks who have
been helping me along in my musical adventure, both recent and
long-term. I'd like to offer a few shout-outs to them, and this is
as good a place as any!
For my "breakout" gig opportunity, I owe a huge thanks to the great
folks (especially Daniel Burnison), at Paia
Bay Coffee & Bar (PBCB), located in the heart of Paia
Town, Maui, who have been actively supporting some fun music and a
great cause (My
Seabury Hall Chorus "Fun-d").
Daniel was the first to take a chance on me performing in public!
During a friendly chat, I mentioned my intention to take my bedside
guitar-playing to the streets (literally - I love busking!), and he
said I should instead come play at PBCB - sight-unseen! It was kind
of a risk to them, but a huge opportunity for me and I'll be
eternally grateful for his initial confidence and on-going support
and advice. Thanks Hugely, Daniel!
I'll also have to thank Sara, an Owner and Manager of PBCB,
who let Daniel give me my 'break', and has generously supported me
and our "fun-d" raising since then! She runs a tight ship at PBCB,
and I happily insist that y'all go check out their restaurant+bar
and have yourself treat if you get a chance! I recommend any of
their wide variety of cold beers and their special off-menu 'sticky
wings' (you gotta ask for 'em). If it's the 2nd Saturday of the
month, maybe you'll catch me playing there, 11am to 1+pm!
Due to scheduling conflicts with seasonal football, my PBCB sessions
are on hold. Check my schedule for updates - possibly occurring in
January of 2026.
Adding to the list, the guitar playing and appreciating folks (Trish
and Levi) at Baked On Maui, in Haiku, Maui,
thought it'd be fun to have some mellow music going on for their
morning crowd, so I'm playing there on the 1st and 3rd Saturday
mornings of each month, from 9am to 11+am !
Check out their website for a killer selection of classic and novel
baked goodies, full meals, as well as some mean coffee and tea
selections. I recommend their massive cinnamon roll - it's pretty
crazy and will energize you for a week.
Heidi...
Over the longer term, I owe my good wife, Heidi, an
immeasurable amount of gratitude for her lifetime of support (and
often tolerance) of my wild-hair ideas, notions, and schemes - this
being one of the crazier ones... You're my gem forever, Heidi-Bee.
Mom...
Lastly, there's my wonder-mom, who let me play (and beat up) her
beautiful Yamaha acoustic guitar when I first got the bug for
plucking strings. She sponsored me some lessons when I was 12(?),
where a good guy named Rudy taught me the value and elegance of
finger-picking, which became the foundation of my playing 'style' if
you can call it that.
When I recently decided that I needed to 'share' my music and
somehow perform, Mom was my biggest supporter and source of
encouragement and practical advice. Mom, you rock! Thanks. It's so
cool that I got to play for her on her 85th birthday over at Paia
Bay Cafe & Bar, along with my visiting brother! Whoda-thunk-it?
I'm sure there are many others that helped me along the way, but
these folks are the ones that really made the difference!
Cheers to you all, and come see me play and say "Hi" if you're out
about!
